Front Crossmember

#1 Post by Nev Bertwistle »

The front crossmember looks like any normal MK2 Focus or P1 Volvo and differs only in the thickness of the bushes that mount it to the chassis. It mounts the crossmember approx 20mm lower and the reason is to give clearance of the transfer case to the steering rack.

Note the extra thickness of the four mounting bushes. The bolts for these are correspondingly longer plus the rear support brackets have a different curve to them to account for the lower mounting. Make sure to get those when you get your crossmember. These can be found in all AWD Volvo S40/V50 plus the TE Kuga and the MK2 RS. My guess with the RS Ford used it to accommodate the Revo knuckle front suspension.

Everything else from your XR5 front suspension is usable and can be bolted to this crossmember in the usual places.
Ford Focus tragic, especially for AWD ones. Someone stop me!
